Gearbox malfunction no reverse gear
2 hours into a 4 hour drive I pull off the highway to for a station. As the car gears down I get the message... Says I can continue driving lol I can't doesn't go into gear (even manually) and no reverse. Had to push it the rest of the way to the gas station. Ran the codes as I'm waiting on the wrecker. How eff'ed am I?

usually clutch wont just go out like that. It will slip a little. You may have entered limo mode. If you reset the codes will it allow it to move?

Displaying friction material, & no reverse gear. Thats a clutch pack fault. These are manual transmissions that shift automatically. In which certain gears are shifted thru the 2 different clutches that combine in the pack. So if youve got a friction material fault and no reverse gear. Youd possibly have damage in one of the clutches. Believe it or not. The dual clutch isnt stout thats why Audi is going to ZF8s in the whole Audi line up. The only DSG cars are the 2 liters.

IIRC, North American C7 A6/7s got the ZF8 because of a market preference for the smoothness of the torque converter and virtually no one caring about the fuel efficiency benefits of the DCT, preferences that are opposite most other places. The C8 A6/7 now have the DCT's to accommodate Quattro with Ultra. I understand the C7 S6/7 getting the DCT for performance reasons, but the C8 getting the ZF8 is a bit of mystery, maybe just parts commonality and using what was already on the shelf from the RS4/5?
